SSL certificates and domain status
How GenPage issues the certificate for a custom domain, and what the Pending and Connected badges on the Domains page mean.

Every custom domain on Workspace → Domains carries a Status badge. This article explains what the badge means and how GenPage gets your domain onto https. You do not buy, upload or renew a certificate yourself.
What the badges mean
- Pending: the domain is added but not connected yet. Either the A record does not point to 34.226.84.124 yet, the change has not reached GenPage's DNS lookup, or the certificate is still being set up. Every domain starts as Pending.
- Connected: GenPage found the A record, every A record for the name points to 34.226.84.124, the certificate is in place and the domain answered GenPage's https check. The badge turns green, and campaigns that use the domain are served on it.
How the certificate is issued
- When you click Check Connection in the Connect Domain dialog, and again about every ten minutes for every domain that is still Pending, GenPage looks up the A records of your domain.
- If there are A records and all of them point to 34.226.84.124, GenPage requests a certificate for the domain on its server. Nothing is needed from you.
- GenPage then calls your domain over https to make sure the certificate works and its server answers. When that succeeds, the status changes to Connected.
- If any step fails, the domain stays Pending and the check runs again ten minutes later.
Once the domain is connected, visitors who open the plain http address are sent to the https address automatically.
