I didn't get the verification email

When GenPage sends the verification email, what it looks like, how to get a new one from the Publish button, and what to check if it never arrives.

On this page

GenPage sends a verification email when you create an account with an email address and password, and again whenever you change the address on your account. You need it for one thing only: publishing a page. Signing in, building and editing work without it. If the email has not arrived, work through the causes below.

What to look for

  • The subject is Verify your GenPage email address. Inside, the heading reads Verify your email address, followed by "welcome to GenPage. Confirm this email address to publish your pages." and a Verify Email button.
  • The link in it works for 72 hours.
  • At sign-up GenPage sends a second email, Welcome to GenPage, at the same moment. If one arrived and the other did not, they were filtered differently: look for the missing one in spam.

1. It is in spam or was filtered

Search every folder of your mailbox, including spam or junk, for "GenPage". If you find the email there, open it and click Verify Email; the link is the same.

2. You signed up with Google

No email is sent. Google confirms the address for you and the account starts out verified, so there is nothing to wait for. If publishing still fails, the reason is a different one; see My page won't publish.

3. It went to a different address

  1. Click the gear icon at the bottom of the sidebar to open Settings, then Account → Profile. The Email row shows the address on your account; the email went there.

The Profile page in Settings with the Email row highlighted
  2. If it is wrong, click the pencil next to it, type the right address and click Save Changes. GenPage sends a fresh verification email to the new address, and any link sent to the old address stops working. See Update your profile.

4. Ask for a new email

The only place to ask for a new email is the Publish button in the editor:

  1. Open the page in the editor and click Publish.
  2. If your address is not verified, GenPage refuses with Verify your email address to publish. Check your inbox for the verification link. and offers a Resend Email button. Click it.
  3. Verification email sent — check your inbox. confirms that it went out. If you see Couldn't send the email. Please try again., click Resend Email once more.

If Publish simply works, your address is already verified.

Clicking a link from the email always lands on a page with a Continue to GenPage button. Its heading tells you what happened:

The page a verification link opens when it has expired, reading This link has expired
  • This link has expired: the email is older than 72 hours. Ask for a new one as in section 4.
  • This link is no longer valid: the address on the account changed after this email was sent. Use the newer email that went to the new address, or ask for another one.
  • Email verified: you are done. Click Continue to GenPage and publish.
