I can't sign in

Fixes for Authentication failed on the Sign in page. A wrong password, an account created with Google, a disabled account, or a sign-in that bounces back.

On this page

You enter your email and password on the Sign in page, click Sign In, and a message says Authentication failed. GenPage shows the same message for every refused sign-in, so it does not say why. Work through the causes in order; the first two cover most cases.

1. The email or password is wrong

Before anything is sent, the page checks the form and shows the problem under the field: Please enter a valid email, Please enter your password or Password must be at least 6 characters. Fix the field and try again.

Authentication failed after that means the address and password do not match an account. Check the address for typos and use the eye icon to see what you typed. Not sure of the password? Reset it:

  1. Click Forgot password? under the Sign In button.

  2. On the Reset password page, enter your address and click Send Reset Link.

  3. GenPage always answers that a link has been sent, whether or not the address has an account, so check spam and the spelling. The email is titled Reset your GenPage password; its link works for 60 minutes.

  4. Choose a new password: at least 8 characters, with at least one uppercase letter and one number. A reset also signs you out of every other browser and device.

2. You created the account with Google

If you signed up with Sign in with Google, the account has no password you know: GenPage stores a random one, so typing your Google password fails.

  • Click Sign in with Google and pick the same Google account. This works even if you have never used the button before, as long as the address matches.
  • If you would rather use a password, run the reset in section 1. It works for every account, so afterwards both ways of signing in work.

If Google sign-in itself fails, you land back on the Sign in page with the reason, for example Your Google email address is not verified. (confirm the address with Google first) or Google sign-in failed. Please try again.

3. Your email address is not verified

This is not a cause. An unverified address never stops you from signing in; it only stops you from publishing a page. See I didn't get the verification email.

4. The account is disabled

GenPage can disable an account. A disabled account gets Authentication failed with a password and Account Disabled with Google. There is nothing to fix on your side; contact support.

5. You sign in but end up back on the Sign in page

  • We couldn't load your account. Please try again — or contact support if this keeps happening. means the sign-in worked but your account details did not load. Click Try Again.
  • GenPage keeps your sign-in in the browser's site data, so clearing it, switching browsers or using a private window means signing in again.
  • Opening a page while signed out sends you to Sign in and back to that page afterwards. That is normal.
