My domain isn't working

A short check list for a custom domain that does not show your page. Is it added, is it still Pending, does the A record match, and is the page set to use it.

· For owners and admins

On this page

You connected a domain, but opening it does not show your landing page. Work through the checks below in order. Each takes a minute, and the two articles linked from them cover the DNS and certificate details. You need the Owner or Admin role; Domains only appears in the sidebar for those roles.

1. Is the domain in your workspace?

Open Workspace → Domains. The domain must be listed under Custom domains, spelled the way visitors type it, such as try.example.com, without https://.

  • Not listed: add it with Add Domain; see Connect a custom domain.
  • The page shows Custom Domains require Scale plan instead of the table: your plan does not include custom domains. Owners see an Upgrade Plan button there.
  • Add Domain answers Domain not available: the domain is connected to another GenPage workspace. Remove it there first; a domain belongs to one workspace only.

2. Is its status still Pending?

Look at the Status column.

The Domains page with a domain whose Status badge reads Pending highlighted
  • Pending means GenPage has not confirmed the DNS record and set up the certificate, so nothing is served on the domain yet. GenPage re-checks every pending domain about every ten minutes and the badge changes on its own; reload the page to see it. Almost always the A record is the reason: continue with check 3, or go straight to Domain not verifying.
  • Connected means the domain is live. If the browser warns about the certificate or the connection, see SSL certificates and domain status.

3. Does the A record match?

Click DNS Setup Guide on the Domains page and compare it with the record at your domain provider. It must be a single record of type A for the subdomain, with the value 34.226.84.124. A second A record for the same name, or a proxy in front of it, makes the check fail and keeps the domain Pending. Domain not verifying walks through this record by record and shows how to run the check again yourself.

4. Is the page set to use the domain?

Connecting a domain does not attach it to a page. Open the page in the editor, click the gear icon labelled Page settings in the toolbar, and look at Custom Domain in the Page Settings panel.

  • None (use default domain) means the page is served on its default address only. Pick the domain from the list.
  • A Connect Domain link instead of a list means the workspace has no domains yet; go back to check 1.
  • If saving is refused with Custom scripts, analytics tracking, and custom domains require a Scale plan or higher., your plan does not include custom domains.

5. Is the page online at all?

  • The toolbar button in the editor must read Published. If it reads Publish, the page or its latest changes are not live; see My page won't publish.
  • If the Landing pages list shows a red banner saying your landing pages are deactivated because the subscription is inactive, every page of the workspace is offline, on every domain, until the subscription is active again.
